Question 1

How does a diamond get its color?

Accepted Answer

From tiny amounts of other elements, or small changes in the crystal. Nitrogen turns a diamond yellow and boron turns it blue. Pink comes from changes in the crystal structure. Lab grown colored diamonds get their color in the same ways, and some are colored by treatment after growth; the grading report says which.

Question 2

Are fancy color lab grown diamonds certified?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Each one here is graded by IGI or GIA. For colored diamonds, the report gives a color grade such as Fancy Light, Fancy, Fancy Intense or Fancy Vivid, which tells you how strong the color is, and states whether the color is as grown or treated.

Question 3

How rare are pink diamonds?

Accepted Answer

Mined pink diamonds are among the rarest diamonds of all. Lab grown pink diamonds are far easier to find, which is why a pink center stone is now within reach for an engagement ring. A lab grown pink diamond is a diamond, graded like any other.

Question 4

Can a fancy color diamond be an engagement ring center stone?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A fancy color lab grown diamond has the same hardness as a colorless one, so it wears just as well every day. Choose a setting that fits its shape and size; white metal makes pink and blue look cooler, yellow gold makes yellow look richer. Start with our engagement ring settings.
