Not when they are set well. Each small diamond is held by tiny beads or prongs of metal, which keep it secure through normal daily wear. A hard knock can loosen one, as with any ring that has small stones, so it is worth having a jeweler check your ring about once a year.

Because the halo makes the center look bigger, you can choose a smaller oval and still get a large look from the top. Choose by the size you want to see on the hand, and compare stones by their length and width in millimeters as well as their carat weight.

A halo sits wider than a plain setting, so check how it meets the band. If the halo sits high, a straight band slides underneath and sits flush. If it sits low, a straight band leaves a gap, and a curved or notched band that hugs the halo fits better. Try both next to your ring if you can.
