How big is a round diamond at each carat weight?

Accepted Answer

Round diamonds are cut to a standard, so their size is consistent for the weight. A 1 carat round measures about 6.5 mm across, a 2 carat about 8.1 mm, and a 3 carat about 9.4 mm. Because rounds are standard, two of the same weight look nearly the same size, so you can compare carats directly.

Every round setting comes in platinum or in 14K or 18K gold, in yellow, white or rose. Yellow and rose gold look warm; white gold and platinum look bright and cool, which keeps a white round looking icy. A round hides a hint of warmth well, so a lower color grade still looks white.
